Storage services

Different services are available, depending on the needs, to securely store research data, ensuring it is always accessible and well-organized throughout the entire research process.

At CSUC, you have access to standard performance storage solutions, high-performance storage for databases, cloud storage to facilitate collaborative work, long-term preservation, and backup solutions. In total, 60 PB of capacity.

  • For large volumes of data: Primarily for the mass storage of data, designed to accommodate emerging workloads such as high-performance data analysis, artificial intelligence, and big data.
  • For applications hosted on CSUC’s cloud infrastructure that require high performance in terms of read and write speeds, such as databases.
  • For backups: Intended for the backup of critical data to prevent loss due to system failures, human errors, attacks, etc.
  • For long-term preservation: Preservation is an ongoing process that extends the ability to use information even beyond the lifespan of existing systems and formats. It is not a backup system but a service aimed at storing data that is not currently in use but must be retained. For example, raw data that needs to remain available and reusable for long-term future research. Preservation is closely tied to the FAIR principles for research data, which state that data should be Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.

The storage infrastructure has been funded through the Next Generation Recovery Plan, as part of the European Union's response to the COVID-19 pandemic under the FEDER Operational Programme of Catalonia 2014-2020.
