Access to CATNIX

In order to have more redundancy, speed and efficiency, institutions connected to the Anella Científica have access to the commercial internet through the Catalonia Neutral Internet Exchange Point, CATNIX, managed by CSUC. With this connection to CATNIX, users enjoy also the benefits of ESpanix, the Spanish IXP. 

Based in Barcelona, CATNIX offers to the users a series of advantages in terms of connection, price and final experience. Direct exchange of traffic within local providers increases the reliability of the network and reduces the distance and number of hops that data must make. With CATNIX, local operators and users significantly improve internet performance and the connection speed. They also get cost savings, both in terms of infrastructure (with a single connection to the IXP they can access to a multitude of networks from different providers) and in terms of traffic (local traffic does not need to be routed for international connections).
